Jeremy has changed quite a bit in the last few months. Even for a teenager he’s more moody than usual. A typically social kid, he has stopped hanging out with his friends, calling them on the phone. In school, his grades have been slipping, his performance as a whole in other activities and sports. His family can’t figure out what’s going on — at this point what they think might be the cause is not something they’re entirely prepared to deal with. Jeremy’s friends know he had been using and they are concerned but don’t really know what to do.
This is not a good place for Jeremy to be. How did he get here? There could be many reasons. The bigger question is, how will he get back on the right track. How will he deal with his addiction and begin to take steps toward recovery? Benchmark Recovery Center can offer some answers.
Teen Addiction — How Did He Get Here?
What possible events could have sparked Jeremy into becoming addicted to drugs? Most people would make the comment, “He didn’t seem like someone who would be addicted to drugs.” Anyone who becomes addicted to drugs never seems to be a person who could get addicted to drugs. For Jeremy, there were in fact some issues that did contribute to his addiction. Because of some things going on in his family Jeremy had begun to develop low self-esteem, depression, anxiety and inability to express his feelings. As he was going through these issues he began to experiment with drugs. The feelings he got from taking drugs made him feel better or at least he thought. His foundation of a strong family had dwindled and for him in his mind he found solace in drugs.
It’s an all too familiar story with teens and addiction. Working with kids who come to Benchmark Recovery Center, we have seen many variations of story but the one thing remains the same. There is a chance for them to have a successful recovery. The combined efforts of the family, the individual and our effective recovery methods can make a difference. Understanding how a kid gets to the point where they feel drugs are a solution is important. Believing that recovery is a possibility is just as important. Let us help make that possibility a reality.
Recovery For Teen Addicts — Hope Springs Eternal
For Jeremy the vicious cycle of teen addiction began with him watching his parents exhibit their addictive behavior. Unfortunately, he has suffered through the plight of his parent’s alcoholism. As a result he had to deal with a lot of pressure to handle stuff at home with his own life and younger brother. The different roles forced upon him began a cycle that led down his own path addiction.
While there is no one thing or person that would be considered the cause of Jeremy’s addiction there are a lot of things that contributed to it. Getting him clean and sober and getting him into recovery will not guarantee that everything will return back to the way it was. What it will do though is get everyone involved to think about how this situation got to where it was and how what will they do to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
The path to recovery is not simple or easy but with hard work and diligence it’s a path worth taking. Let Benchmark Recovery Center help get you down that path.
